DescriptionRegulation bayonet of the Model of 1771 with a locking ring set at the rear of the socket, and a mortise cut for an under-the-barrel bayonet lug.Label TextDistinguished by a rotating locking ring at the rear of the socket, this pattern is one of the earliest to employ this feature. This method of securing the socket bayonet to its musket remained in use in Europe and America until the late 19th century, attesting to the value of its ingenious and reliable design.
MarkingsBase of blade struck with "8" and an orb & cross within a shaped cartouche. A faintly struck crowned letter (A?) is visible on the shank, along with an "R" and a punched dot.
