DescriptionThis c.1695 attic scuttle door from the Nelson-Galt House is among the earliest and rarest surviving architectural elements from Williamsburg. The wrought iron rosehead nails and foliated hinges survive from its original installation in the houses's second-floor ceiling.Label TextInstalled in the second floor ceiling of the Nelson-Galt House, this scuttle door provided access to the attic. The foliated hinges and molded battens are typical of Williamsburg in the 17th and early-18th centuries. The door is among the town's earliest surviving architectural elements in our collection.
