DescriptionMolded figure depicting a seated cross-legged tailor using a tailor's goose iron in his right hand to press material on a lap or sleeve board balanced on his legs; the figure is wearing a hat with a broad rim; figure supported on an integral fluted base decorated in green; the figure painted with splotches of yellow and brown.Label TextFigures depicting tradespeople functioned in the eighteenth century much like the prints from which they were often based. They were both decorative and informative and, for today's viewer, provide windows into everyday life of the eighteenth century. This particular object illustrates a typically dressed tailor employing a few of the tools of his trade including a goose iron and lap or sleeve board.
