DescriptionSilver tankard: Circular base with center point on bottom and applied, stepped baseband; tapering straight sides with applied, molded midband. High domed and stepped cover with incised lines on flange and stylized foliate pinecone finial peened through lid. Hollow scroll handle with long drop at upper juncture, oval disk at lower juncture, pointed plain oval terminal, and a crescent-shaped air vent at base of handle. Applied shaped baluster drop for three-part hinge; open frame thumbpiece with top edge comprised of a double scroll with short scrolls at base.
Label TextTankards are among the largest forms produced in the shop of Paul Revere. Of the approximately three-dozen surviving examples, the few made circa 1795 feature tapering sides, midbands, tall domed lids, and spiral or pinecone form finials.
