DescriptionBulbous-bodied covered sugar dish, stepped towards the lip and embellished with two bands of triple beading, composed of a course of large beads in between two courses of smaller beads. A scrolling handle is set on each side and carries simplified furls and panels of broad fluting. Its stepped circular base has a band of triple-beading at the junction with the body and at the foot ring. Rising to a bulbous dome, its lid is topped by a mushrooming berry and leaf finial.
InscribedFront of the body engraved with the Tucker family crest of a lion's paw holding a battle axe, over a "T" in sprigged script.
MarkingsBottom of body struck with "G.EOFF" in relief within a rectangle, "J.H.CONNOR" in relief within a serrated rectangle, "S" below a star in relief within an oval, and a group of three imitation British hallmarks.
ProvenanceAs per donor's note: Gift from Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28th, 1879-August 22, 1970] to niece, Joan Leanora Tucker Fowle [October 19, 1929-January 26, 2023].
