DescriptionTea tongs: scissor type. Semi-circular undecorated grips on cyma-curved arms elaborately chased with flowers and leaves. Circular pivot with engraved sun-flower design. Handles of foliate C-scrolls terminating in circular finger guards.Label TextSugar tongs of this scissor type with scrolled arms and shell-shaped grips were the most popular form during the middle decades of the eighteenth century. Relatively few are fully marked. This finely chased pair is part of a set with six teaspoons and their original shagreen-covered case (accessions 1954-563, 1-6).
