DescriptionFairly shallow curved-sided bowl with short cylindrical foot ring. Bluish tin glaze decorated on the exterior with pale manganese powder ground and four reserves outlined in blue containing floral sprays in pale mixed green, blue, and yellow. On the interior, the inscription "One Bowle More & then" in blue script.Label TextThe inscription "One Bowle More & then," lettered in blue inside this punch bowl, is a shortened version of the eighteenth-century saying "One bowl of punch more, and then we part." It was further shortened to become the motto on a "Drunkards Coat of Arms": "One more and then." In that form the expression appears on at least one delft bowl. Other variations of the saying appear on fragments of delft bowls: "One More Bowl Will," "One Bowl More," and "The Other Bowl and Then".
The palette on this example is generally attributed to Bristol.
Inscribed"One Bowle More & then" in blue script on interior of bowl.
