Label TextThese clogs were designed to protect the soles and structure of fragile shoes when worn. In particular, the arched support in the clog gave additional strength to the arch of a high-heel shoe in an era before steel shanks. These clogs were probably constructed about 1760 from earlier silk dating to the 1720s. This use of earlier textiles was not unusual in the shoemaking trade.
