Label TextThe etching is an adaption from "The Dog Barber" originally published by Darly in 1771. A tall gaunt Frenchman stands carrying a pair of shears in one hand and holding a long-haired black dog under his other arm. Two other dogs are tied to a post. He appears to be ready to shear the dog that he carries under his arm. The scene is given to be that of the quais of Paris, as indicated by the inscription "Qua" (i) "CH"---on a building.
