White tin glaze decorated in blue: on the body, the arms of the London Company of Salters and scrollwork flanked by chinoiserie floral sprays and the inscription "H L A 1674"; on the neck, the inscription: "WHEN THIS YOU SEE REMBER MEE GL."Label TextThe body of this mug features the arms of the London Company of Salters. The original company included men who produced or sold sea salt and those who salted or preserved food with it. The company later included those who worked with other chemicals as well.
The initials "H L A" and the date "1674" appear just above the coat of arms. It is not known to whom the initials refer. "WHEN THIS YOV SEE REMBER MEE GL" is inscribed around the neck of the vessel.
The London attribution is based on the mug's glaze, form and the presence of the arms of a London company of tradesmen.
