DescriptionTeapot, sugar dish, and cream jug of soft-paste porcelain.

2022-260,1a&b - Teapot: A cylindrical foot supports a thrown globular body that rises to a short neck in which a slightly domed and flared cover with a deep bezel sits, the cover with an applied flower knop and a single vent hole near the stem; a ribbed strap handle is opposite a smooth slightly curved spout. Each side of the body is decorated with stylized floral sprays en camaieu/puce/pink/purple, with one larger central spray flanked by two smaller sprays framed in frilly gilt cartouches. The spout and handle feature fronds and lines of small dots in the same pink color. The slightly domed and flaring cover is topped by a flower bud finial connected to a molded and applied stem with two leaves. The cover is also decorated with a single floral spray in a gold cartouche and other stylized floral motifs. The mouth of the spout, bottom of the neck, and the edge of the cover are gilt.

2022-260,2a&b - Sugar Bowl: A thrown bell-shaped sugar bowl and cover made of soft-paste porcelain and decorated en camaieu/puce/pink/purple and gilt. Two sides of the bowl feature a flower with stylized fronds extended up from behind it, and the other two sides show similar fronds topped by a fan shaped flower, encircled by a frilly oval cartouche. Smaller floral motifs and insects are painted in between these larger sprays all over the body. The domed cover is decorated with the same alternating pattern of floral sprays and cartouches, and it topped by a pink flower bud finial with molded leaves.

2022-260,3 - Cream jug: Thrown baluster-shaped cream jug on a raised, cylindrical foot, with tooled strap handle and sparrow beak spout, decorated with floral sprays en camaieu/puce/pink/purple. The floral spray on the front of the jug is framed by a frilly gilt cartouche, and smaller flowers, fronds, and insects appear all over the body. The lip and rim of the jug are gilt.
Label TextThe decorative motif on this teaset was inspired by the German Meissen Porcelain Manufactory's "Indian" flower pattern, of which there were several versions, one of the most popular being decorated in puce (or magenta) and gilt. The Worcester Porcelain Manufactory closely copied the pattern and offered it to British consumers at a more reasonable price.
