DescriptionOne of a pair of straight-sided oval dishes with flat bases and slightly everted rims. Bluish tin glaze decorated using the technique known as trek in shades of blue outlined in dark brown with a chinoiserie scene of birds and flowering branches. The matching pot is accession 1960-242.Label TextThis appears to be a very early example of the potting pot, a container for preserved or "potted" meats. The form continued to be produced throughout the eighteenth century in both pottery and porcelain. The decoration of these dishes is similar to that on two privately owned punch bowls dated 1693. The London attribution is based on the runny glaze on the interior and the exterior decoration.
