DescriptionSauceboat, miniture, in the form of a leaf with upturned edges decorated in overglaze enamels on the exterior with two large polychrome floral sprays and with leaves and flowers in relief, four leaves forming the feet. The small loop handle is in the form of a branch. The interior is decorated with six small flowers.Raise anchor period.
Label TextThe shape of this miniature sauceboat is adapted from a Chinese example. The floral decoration is unusual in that each petal and leaf is outlined in black, giving it a hard, crisp feeling. A similar sauceboat, undecorated, is in the Colonial Williamsburg collection (accession 1962-40).
