DescriptionThis rectangular bed quilt is made of fine twill-woven, dark blue worsted, pressed and glazed to impart shine. Creases from the wool glazing press are evident. The quilt is backed with light-blue, tabby-woven homespun woolen fabric, pieced up from different dye lots to form a strie effect. It is quilted with running stitches in a design that is symmetrical on the left and right through woolen batting. The center of the design consists of a floral vine with curling tendrils that culminate in large leaves and floral palmettes. The vine is surrounded by a curvilinear leafy vine that starts at the center bottom and almost meets at the center top. Surrounding that border is another vine border with leaves, fruit and floral palmettes. The face consists of 3 ½ widths of textile. The edges are finished by turning the face and backing to the inside and stitching with running stitches.
