DescriptionThis rectangular quilt is made of bright pink plain-woven glazed wool backed with napped red woolen fabric woven in plain weave. It is quilted in running stitches using pinkish-brown silk threads through a batting of wool fibers. The quilting pattern consists of four large undulating vines with leaves, flowers, and floral palmettes. The vines run vertically across the center portion of the quilt. In the very center of the quilt is a large flower with four, heart-shaped petals above groupings of three leaves. Above and below the central flower, placed symmetrically as a mirror image, are floral palmettes. The whole is surrounded by four rows of scallops, with each row offset from the preceding. The final outer border consists of four, straight parallel rows. The background quilting is parallel diagonal lines. The edges are turned to the inside and stitched with running stitches.ProvenanceFrom New York (according to dealer Florene Maine).
