DescriptionShallow bowled charger with everted rim and foot ring. Lead glaze on the back; whitish tin glaze on the front decorated in polychrome with figures of Adam and Eve under a tree. Figures outlined and washed in thich orange-brown with manganese hair; landscape outlined in blue and washed in green; tree trunk in mixed green; apples and shading on figures in yellow. Blue-dash rim with an inner yellow band.Label TextThe pose held by Adam and Eve in this delft dish is the same as that on another example in the CWF collection (accession 1959-52) and is obviously drawn from it. This and two other poses (perhaps also from print sources) appear to be the most popular among those on the many surviving Adam and Eve chargers made in England during the second half of the seventeenth century, although there are other variations. The London attribution for this dish is based on the shape and the decoration.
