DescriptionSerpentine crest rail with leaf carved ears; leaf-carving in center; cut-out in center and in areas flanking center. Three slats below carved and cut out to match. Moulded, incurving stiles. Saddle seat frame of beech; diagonal corner braces of mahogany. Plain unmoulded "Marlborough" front legs chamfered on inner corners; rear legs "kick out" at back. Plain unmoulded side, rear, and medial stretchers.ProvenanceSource purchased chair some years ago (probably in the 1930s) from an African-American family in Williamsburg, Va.
