Description"Fancy" side chair with broad, curved cresting rail, rolled over at back; curved stiles, flat on front, taper outward to above seat where they become rounded, with series of ring turnings above seat; center of back composed of two parallel slats, between which is a row of roundels with applied beads at top and bottom; larger, cross slat below; balloon seat with flat, veneered skirt and caned center; turned, front legs with ball at top, become cylindrical, taper and flare out below terminating in button feet; real legs cylindrical, taper inward at base; broad, slightly curved front stretcher peaks upward at center; plain, cylindrical side and rear stretchers; elements of back and seat outlined with thin, painted black lines.

ProvenanceProbably made for Peter Sanders (1792-1850) who marrked Maria Elmendorf in 1824, (see bill described in remarks) then descended to their son Charles P. his son, Charles P. II and his son, J. Glen, whose widow was the last in the family to own the chairs.
