DescriptionBrass hilt with a 4-slot "D" guard and an ovoid pommel embellished with turned lines. Spiraling bone grip reinforced by a brass ferrule at its base. European triple-fullered blade, slightly curved with a long flat area below the hilt.Label TextThough not quite long enough to be a dragoon sword, this sabre could have been made for a mounted infantry officer. It imitates those produced in England for Redcoated officers but incorporates a bone grip instead of a more difficult to get ivory one. Large numbers of triple-fullered blades, likely made in Solingen (Germany), were brought here during the Revolutionary period and were mounted with a wide array of hilts by American smiths.
