DescriptionMug: slightly waisted cylindrical body; applied to one side is a solid ear-shaped loop handle with small kick to the lower terminal; the body painted with curved panels delineated by dark brown vertical lines; each panel containing strewn "Peacock's Comb" floral motifs of red, blue and black or dark green and scattered dots of yellow and turquoise; double conentric lines at the foot and top of the paneled decoration; the rim painted with a border of alternating reserves of a hatched diaper design in dark green (or black), and geometric floral motifs of red, green, black or dark green, turquoise, and yellow; the handle painted with green horizontal slashes. All decoration is under the glaze.Label TextFragements of lead-glazed earthenware from Kutahya were recovered archaeologically from the Raleigh and Wetherburn Taverns in Williamsburg, Virginia.
