Descriptiontankard: Design taken from a flagon of spire type with finial, its broad banding with a wide central fillet placed high on its spreading base.
Label TextThis tankard is of an unusual design for an English example. It is obviously taken from a flagon of spire type with its finial, its broad banding with a wide central fillet placed high on its body, and a spreading base. Thomas Carpenter was a prominent specialist maker of flagons, particularly those of this spire type. The pseudo hallmarks, which include the initials of Thomas Carpenter, were long misattributed to his brother John Carpenter.

InscribedNone
MarkingsNo apparent touch mark. Secondary mark a quality "X" on face of body above pseudo hallmarks. Pseudo hallmarks (1) lion rampant within a shield, (2) buckle within a rounded reserve, (3) black letter "T" within a shield, and (4) black letter "C" within a shield on face of body to right of handle (Peal MPM 810).
