White"Label TextThis print depicts Nicholas Saunderson (1682-1739), a celebrated English mathematician and professor at Christ's College, Cambridge. He lost his eyesight as a young child after he was infected with smallpox. The portrait was painted for mathematician and antiquary Martin Folkes (1690-1754) who would serve as the president of the Royal Academy from 1741-1753.
