DescriptionA vase of mixed flowers in a vase on a marbleized slab. Flowers include roses, bellflowers, and others, with foliage. The vase is now almost transparent and rests on a marbleized slab. Artist unidentified.

The 1 5/8-inch beveled and gilded frame is a period replacement.
Label TextThe artist created an interesting contrast in visual effects by painstakingly adding individual thorns to the rose stems at right while providing large leaves and limited detail at left. The stenciled gray vase and base are almost transparent, though the latter has spattered areas of darker gray to simulate marbleized graining.
ProvenanceEdith Gregor Halpert, Downtown Gallery, New York, NY; Mrs. John D. Rockefeller, Jr., by whom given to CWF in 1939.
