DescriptionA bouquet of various flowers and leaves in a pale gray vase on a slab.Artist unidentified.
The 1 3/4-inch splayed black walnut frame with corner splines is possibly original.
Label TextIt appears that the artist strove for a marked contrast in tonality by juxtaposing strong hues with delicate ones in BOUQUET OF SUMMER FLOWERS, but fading may have heightened the distinction in a manner that was not intended originally. The pale pinks of the rose blooms are now barely discernible, and the vase sets on a ledge that projects from no visible means of support. Skillful, controlled shading creates a surprising sense of texture adn dimension, especially in the foliage.
InscribedIn script in pencil onthe original wood backboard is, "Mrs Pegram".
