DescriptionThis coverlet is a blue and white double woven coverlet woven in two loom widths and center seamed. The center ground has alternating rows of large circular floral motifs alternating with rows of diamond shaped floral motifs. This is surrounded on three sides by a border of eagles, stars, and trees. On these same sides there is a lattice work border which is on the outer edge. The lower two corners contain a corner block with "H B/ BETHANY/ GENESEE/ COUNTY/ NY 1834" woven into it. The coverlet has a twill weave cotton binding on all four edges.MarkingsWoven into the corner blocks of this piece is: "H B/ BETHANY/ GENESEE/ COUNTY/ NY 1834"
ProvenanceSee Donor's letter (undated) in file, which states "my mother thinks the [initials] H. B. stand for Hannah Butler, her great (great?) grandmother."
