Label TextThis print was engraved by James Watson (1740-1790) after a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792). It depicts Jeffrey Amherst, a British officer, clad in armor overlooking a river where men are travelling on boats. His helmet is placed atop a map of Quebec. Amherst played a vital part in the Seven years War, successfully capturing Canada from France.
