ProvenanceSaid to have been worn by Judge Joseph Prentis I (1754-1809) of Williamsburg and by Joseph Prentis, Jr., of Williamsburg and Suffolk, VA. A letter of Dec. 23, 1978, written by Dr. Joseph P. Webb states "Attached to the box containing these [shoe buckles] was a notation in my grandmother Webb's handwriting stating that they belonged to Joseph Prentis I."
