DescriptionTeaspoon: Small beverage spoon of trefid type. Broad flat handle face with boldly shaped trefid end and straight-sided stem of trapezoidal section; front and back of handle enriched with cast relief decoration with floral blossom at end with pendant trailing flowering vin e on stem; elliptical bowl with broadened upper quadrants with long beaded rat tail on back flanked by cast relief scrollwork of "lace back" type.Label TextSmall pewter spoons, usually termed teaspoons, such as this engaging example, were intended not only for the service of tea, but also of coffee and chocolate. Early examples from the last decades of the seventeenth century are of trifid form. They are often covered with cast-relief decoration, in much the same manner as early prototypic silver spoons of this size, which are often gilded and embellished with overall engraving of similar design.
