DescriptionUniface bill printed on thin paper. Border of decorative cuts include the denomination expressed as "TWELVE CROWNS" and "3 Three Pounds." The central reserve includes cuts of the Virginia Arms and Motto beside the manuscript serial number "901" above a text block reading "THREE POUNDS Current Money of VIRGINIA According to an Act of Assembly passed April 5, MDCCLIX THREE POUNDS."
Signed by Peyton Randolph and Robert Carter Nicholas. Reverse filled with manuscript endorsements and notes.
Label TextVirginia’s first issues of paper money looked like this bill and came from a press like this one. The form used print it was composed of type, four border cuts, and another of Virginia’s coat of arms. It carries the signatures of two famous Williamsburgians; Peyton Randolph and Robert Carter Nicholas.
