DescriptionBaby's shoe, covered with red silk velvet and bound with tarnished silver metallic and braided tape at edges. Braid is woven into white cotton tape at edge. Brown leather flat soles scored at arch. Latchets are pointed with a small punched hole to tie over instep and pointed tongue. White leather structure beneath red velvet which gives the appearance of a white rand. White threads used for intial construction and orange-red silk thread used to attach red velvet. Construction History:
1. Ca. 1610: Initial Construction
2. 1610-1650: Shoe covered in red velvet and metallic tape over thewhite leather after initial construction. The silk threads used for this addition are obvious at the interior and differ from the threads and techniques used in the original construction of the shoe.
