DescriptionDovetail saw of classic late-18th c. form with a straight steel blade bolstered by the addition of a brass spine. Shaped, open wooden handle is attached to the blade with two brass bolts secured by slotted & threaded washers.Label TextThe smallest of the named range of backsaws imported into America produced cuts ranging from coarse to very precise. With its many fine teeth, it was superb for creating delicate dovetail joints, which is how it got its name.
MarkingsSpine of blade marked "HOWEL" in raised letters within a scalloped cartouche.
