Dickinson fecit./ Published according to Act of Parliament, 1766./ Price 5.s"Label TextThis portrait of King George II of Great Britian and Ireland was based on a painting by Robert Edge Pine who allegedly captured the monarch's likeness in a candid moment as he addressed "one of his attendants at the top of the Great Staircase at Kensington Palace." This mezzotint was published in 1766, several years after his death.
ProvenanceThe painting (1948-86) which was the source for this engraving was also given by Mr. Preston Davie at the same time as the engraving.
