DescriptionCap for a woman or man, pieced up at a later date from old white silk with linen backing, embroidered through both layers with polychrome silks and couched metallic cords. Embroidery pattern of pink, yellow and blue flowers on scrolling green vine. The cap is edged with white and pink-red silk gimp; a band of this gimp encircles the cap about 1/3 of the length from the top. Where this band and the slit meet is a rosette of white silk edged with pink-red. No lining. It is unclear how this headpiece was worn.Label TextIt is possible this cap was made in the late nineteenth or twentieth century as part of folk costume.
