DescriptionThis is a heart-shaped, pink, silk pincushion. Each side is adorned with several colors of watercolor, possibly applied with a stencil. One side shows a sprig of roses and a garland of berries. The other side contains the words "Honor thy father/ and thy mo/ ther" surrounded by a garland of blue flowers. Pins are inserted around the edge of the pincushion.
Label TextThis pincushion recalls the theorum paintings that were popular during the first half of the nineteenth century. The maker likely applied techniques such as stenciling that were used to create theorum paintings to create the designs on this pincushion.
