DescriptionPetticoat border: Long, narrow band of tabby weave linen and cotton. Ink drawings for crewel embroidery: 9 larger groups of flowers on curving stems; intervening spaces filled with small sprigs of flowers or fruit. three selvage to selvage widths, seamed together.ProvenanceFamily information states the border was owned by Anne Goodman Bethea, wife of Tristram Bethea of Chowan Precinct, North Carolina (now Gates County). They were married in 1735. The textile may also have belonged to their daughter, Mary. See letter in object file.
