DescriptionSide chair: Crest rail with scrolled ears, central shell and volutes, rounded back. Vase shaped splat joins crest rail under shell and joins shoe at top of back seat rail. Overall spoon shaped back, splat is crotched wood in a nicely feathered pattern with chamfered edges. Back posts are flat with a rounded back, mortise to receive tenons from seat rails. Back posts continue to floor as flared back legs, ovoid in cross section. Squared seat rail with molded edge, cut out front, sides. Corner blocking is old (possibly original) with forged nails. Original yellow pine slip seat. Front cabriole legs with shell carving on knees and trifid feet. Leg forms corner rail and posts; they are pegged to sides and front at rails.Materials: Black walnut with yellow pine slip seat.
