DescriptionSalt Cellar: One of a pair of oval open salt cellars: Four short cast legs with ball-and-claw feet support straight-sided oval frame with applied beading at upper rim and narrow bands of bright-cut engraving at top and bottom; sides pierced with horizontal slots with intervening circles, flanking an empty rectangular reserve; fitted oval blue glass liner.MarkingsMarked in relief on underside of base: 1) sponsor's mark "RH" within an oval [Grimwade 1990 # 2330]; 2) leopard's head crowned; 3) lion passant; and 4) date letter "b" for 1777-78.
