DescriptionMedallion with portrait of George III, facing right, with a crown of laurel leaves in his hair. With the cornet and a banner with "HEALTH RESTORED" over his head. The edge of the medallion beveled. The light blue Jasper body dipped in darker blue. The reliefs in white.Label TextOne of a series of three portraits made to commemorate George III's return to health after a protracted illness. This was particularly poignant given the king's low popularity at the moment, an opposition parliament, and chronic health conditions. Portraits of the king had been a part of Wedgwood's catalog since 1773.
Inscribed"HEALTH / RESTORED" in a banner over George III's head.
Markings"WEDGWOOD" is impressed to the verso.
