DescriptionAppearance: Splat-back side chair, one of pair with serpentine crest rail with scrolled ears; rectangular tapering splayed stiles rounded in back; pierced vasiform splat with cut-out heart below lobes; trapezoidal seat upholstered over rail; square legs with molded outer edges; quarter-round bracket between each front leg and rail; rectangular side and rear stretchers with moulded outer edges; medial stretcher set 5 1/4" back from front of leg. Construction: Mortise-and-tenon construction throughout; evidence of previous tacks on sides and underside of seat; upholstery peaks show tacks up sides at corner; dovetailed medial stretchers; triangular corner blocks held in place with wrought iron nails.
