DescriptionAPPEARANCE: serpentine crest rail with flanking C-scrolls, central cabochon and leaf carving, and round, leaf carved, ears; pierced, vasiform splat with carved, interlaced strapwork; stiles with molded fronts and rounded backs; molded shoes; trapezoidal slip seat; front and side seat rails and tops of front legs with beaded outer edges; pierced, C-scroll brackets mounted between front legs and front and side rails; front straight legs with beaded outer edges and chamfered inner edges; rear straight legs rake slightly back; H-plan stretcher with one rear stretcher. CONSTRUCTION: all parts are of mahogany except as noted; stiles and splat tenoned into crest rail; splat tenoned into shoe which is glued and nailed to rear seat rail; all seat rails tenoned into legs; hard maple slip seat side elements tenoned into front and rear hard maple elements; white pine, one piece, horizontal front corner blocks glued and nailed to front and side seat rail; white pine, one piece, vertical, quarter round rear corner blocks glued to rear seat rail, rear legs, and side seat rails; pierced, C-scroll brackets glued and nailed to front stretchers tenoned into legs, medial stretcher half-dovetailed from underside into side stretchers.
Markings"VII" chiseled into inside of rear seat rail; "VII" chiseled into underside of slip seat front element.
