DescriptionPlate with slightly incised foot ring. Blue tin glaze decorated on and under the glaze in blue, manganese, red, green, and yellow with a stylized oriental scene of rockwork and flowers in the center. On the rim, three matching sprays of flowers including thickly painted blue scratched fans.
Label TextLarge numbers of delft plates in this pattern survive, suggesting that the design was very popular in the eighteenth century. The rockwork, which appears as a yellow dot in a blue shape, has been stylized almost beyond recognition and has led some modern collectors to refer to this as the "fried egg pattern." The London attribution is based on the strong colors and on the fact that fragments with this pattern were excavated at the Lambeth High Street site in London, published by F. H. Garner.
