DescriptionWoman's "sandal" shoe, one of a pair, made of green leather trimmed with white silk ribbon. Shoe has silk rosette trim on rounded toe, and three horizontal cut-outs over the instep, bound with silk ribbon. The tongue has zig-zag sides with lacing holes and squared top over which the lacing ribbon is tied. Shoe is made as a "straight" with deeply waisted flat soles. Matching shoe #2 has a round paper label with a figure of Liberty with anchor and the words " T. A. Chadwick / Shoe Store / 92 1/2 Court Street / Boston/ [last word indecipherable].MarkingsPaper label inside shoe #2 reads, "T.A. Chadwick / Shoe Store / No. 92 1/2 / Court St. / Boston / [indecipherable word]"
ProvenanceSaid to have been worn by Jane Hodge Nichols, b. 1780, married in Portland, Maine.
