DescriptionBread basket with high-arched openwork swing handle with cast shell-enclosed cartouche with flowers at sides applied to center-top and scrolled sides members to pivots with nut-and-bolt attachment to rim of body; large body of oval plan with curved sides with openwork panels of scrolls, stylized flowers, and quatrefoils and stars, separated by high-chased swirls of graduated beading, flared at top with cast and applied openwork rim of scrolled leaves and flowers enclosing two festooned borders, one of flowers and the other of beads; cast openwork apron of shells, flowers, and scrolls with a bell above each of the four scroll feet. MarkingsMaker's mark "W.P" in block letters within a shaped rectangle, leopard's head crowned, lion passant, and date letter on exterior of basketamong piercing. Handle unmarked.
