DescriptionThis coverlet is double-woven in red and dark blue wools with white cotton; center-seamed and self- fringed at bottom. The side borders show long-tailed birds on boughs on either side of an urn alternating with a domed, mosque-like building flanked by bending trees. Above and below is a border of flowers and V-shaped ornament. The two lower corner blocks show a row of circles on either side of a row of squares on three sides; eight-pointed stars flank a date year of "1847" at the bottom. Enclosed in each block is an urn with flowers. The bottom border has a top edge like the upper three sides of the corner blocks. Between it and a lowermost repeat of eight curved leaves and stems is a repeat of a large flower bloom flanked by leaves alternating with urns of flowers. The interior consists of floral medallions alternating with geometric medallions interspersed with four- pointed stars. Wools are used in the warp and weft.
MarkingsThe date "1847" is woven into each lower corner block.
