DescriptionThis is a single-woven coverlet of tied beiderwand construction in dark blue wool and white cotton with a supplementary thread of light blue cotton; center-seamed; self-fringed at sides and bottom; and has a rolled-over hem at top. The side borders are mirror repeats of a peacock on a flowering branch, the birds being separated by two types of cross- hatched ornament; below them is a row of sprigs and above them a continuous border of angular ornament. The corner blocks are simply a quarter of a repeat of the interior design: a section of a starburst, two pendant blooms, and a rose bloom with two buds in the inner corner. The bottom border consists of repeats of the same peacock as in the side borders, but here the mirror-images are oriented vertically related to the design, rather than horizontally. The interior consists of a "four roses" variant alternating with four more loosely joined blooms for one horizontal border; this row alternates with one of the large eight- pointed starbursts and a different, loosely- joined four-flower cluster.InscribedNo inscriptions
