Label TextThis print shows what are known known as the University of Oxford Botanic Gardens, the oldest botanical gardens in England. They were founded in 1621 as a physic garden. The print features the Glasshouses and the Danby Gateway with the Magdalen tower in the background. In the foreground is the elevation and plan of the Danby Gateway and a garden plan presented by putti and seated next to the figure of Brittanie. The putti hold a scroll that reads: "Gloriaedei opimimaximi Honori Carolu. Regisin usum Academiae Et Reipubli Caehenricus comes Danby. anno MDCXXXII."

This plate is double mounted with title on back, for use in a viewing device such as an optique.
