Label TextIn the nineteenth century prior to the Civil War, middle-class Americans enjoyed bright colors and patterns in their home furnishings. From painted and stenciled furniture, to papered and faux-grained rooms, the love of color and ornament was evident. To meet the desires of their customers, weavers provided colorful figured and fancy coverlets for bedsteads and decorative coverings for floors.
