DescriptionLow post bed: arched serpentine headboard mortised into heavy cylindrical posts with substantial mushroom finials; heavy cylindrical tapering legs terminating in disk feet with molded edge; foot posts blocked at rail surmounted by mushroom finial above heavy, tapering cylindrical posts terminating in disk feet with molded edges; four rails, "square" in section; side rails chamfered on inside upper edge and rope pegs set along edge; end rails same as side rails except not chamfered.Label TextIn the nineteenth century prior to the Civil War, middle-class Americans enjoyed bright colors and patterns in their home furnishings. From painted and stenciled furniture, to papered and faux-grained rooms, the love of color and ornament was evident. To meet the desires of their customers, weavers provided colorful figured and fancy coverlets for bedsteads and decorative coverings for floors.
