DescriptionThis is a small almost square sampler from a work book stitched as an exercise. It is worked in shades of red, green, gold, pink, rose, brown, black, and cream silk threads on a natural color linen ground. It is hemmed at top and sides and has a selvage edge at bottom. From the top the sampler consists of:"A-N" uppercase block
Band of two rows of alternating pairs of cross stitches
"O-Z" "P" uppercase block
Band of two rows of alternating pairs of cross stitches
"a-t" lowercase block
Band of two rows of alternating single cross stitch
"u-z" lowercase block, vertical row of cross stitches, "1-8", two motifs
Band of two rows of alternating single cross stitch
"A-J' L-O" uppercase block, worked in four-sided stitch
Band of three rows of cross stitches
"P" "Q-Z" uppercase block, "1, 0", square motif
Band of single row of four-sided stitch
First portion of last band is undecipherable, "Ann Bella[?]
The sampler is bordered on all four sides by two rows of single cross stitch.
