DescriptionOil portrait of young girl in eighteenth century costume. Half-length view, and girl surrounded by oval of paint painted brown to simulate a brown porthole through which the girl looks. Through oval can see bluish grey background and brownish cloud effects on either side of girl behind her. Girl has short (ear length), blond wavy hair parted roughly in middle and brown eyes. She wears a simple white round necked shirt under dress which is cream with a fine vine-like design painted on it in thin, almost transparent, orangish color. The dress extends to the elbows in open sleeves and white of shirt is visible at sleeve opening. The waist is a "V". The pattern on the dress is rather luxurious and rich. A cupid's bow mouth, and touches of pink are found in cheek. She holds a pinkish carnation-like flower in her upraised left hand and her right hand disappears outside of oval frame. Flower has thin dark spikey leaves. Modern replacement 3-inch molded gilt frames.MarkingsNone found
