DescriptionOil portrait of a young girl with her spaniel dog in her lap. Girl is painted half-length within an oval which is painted like a porthole, of brown paint. The background is brownish-blue grey with dark small clouds on either side of girl in background. Her neckline of the dress is slightly square with trim of lace, her sleeves reach to her elbows where they are full, and one can see white of shirt sleeves below dress sleeves. Dress is coffee colored with fine vine-like tracery design in red. Her hair is almost black and is pulled behind her back with one tendril on left shoulder. Her eyes are blue-grey. Her head is slightly turned to her left and her eyes look back towards viewer to her right. Her visible ear has a large gold earing of heavy impasto in it, which rises above surface of canvas, and black light reveals as being overpainted. Cupid's bow mouth. Left hand disappears outside oval and sho holds a furry, long-haired black ans white spaniel in her lap. Her right hand is sufficiently transparent for dress to show through it.
